Apprentice II
I played around with my gargoyle using a shield, and not using a shield - I can't seem to notice a difference at all. When looking into throwing some I saw that there's a large penalty if using a shield.

Shield Penalties
All the throwing weapons are one-handed in nature which allows the Thrower to equip a shield or other item in their off hand. The player will suffer a Defense and Hit Chance penalty for using a shield while using a throwing weapon. These penalties can be offset by investing skill points into Parrying. Player’s with no skill points in parry will have a minimum chance to hit."

"Best Performance in damage per second: without shield. Absolutely clear, as you said it. But I never doubted that. However, there is a difference WITH shield according to the Parry-Level you got. However, I was not able to quantify this difference. At 0 Parry your hit chance is crap, you are missing very often. At 120 the hit chance was quite good, if you ask me. Some missing hits, but most of the time you hit. So, it WOULD be possible to play a char in PVM this way - e.g. when you get a nice 10 SSI-shield working in your template. I would be very much interested in the differences between lower levels of parry (100, 80) and 120 or 0. But I dont have the time to quantify this. If I only had a calculator for this, comparable to a ssi-calculator... "
