Not A Bug Carpentry weapon not using Arms Lore

I am crafting Bokutos for carpentry but am not gaining Arms Lore. ???

Yes any weapon crafting should also gain arms lore.

are they exceptional? according to BaseWeapon, all weapons will have a gain check if its crafted exceptional.

That's a good point - the DI boost from armslore only comes into play with exceptional

Yes this is working fine. I double checked bokuto, and there is nothing special about this weapon that would bypass the check.

I will say, the correlation with crafting is very uneven. I had nearly 18 points of carpentry and about 1.8 armslore.
I just ended up macroing another hour looking at the weapon and topped it off. just was surprised by the super slow gains

They have two completely different ways to gaining. Carpentry depends on skill, and the difficulty of what you are making. Arms Lore is an even scale from 0 to 100, so the closer to 100 you get, the slower it goes.
