You should be able to remove mage armor from artifacts (tested/screenclipped on OSI TC). On Heritage, it says you cannot convert these items.

For the inherent lmc and stamina bonuses reflected on my post yesterday. Mystic mages in particular benefit heavily from removing mage armor from studded/bone pieces to pickup the lmc bonus.

Correct if you're running a non-med mage build having them be non-mage armor gives you added LMC cap
