What are the benefits to me? Nada
Same reason I don't have social media accounts/have my photo online/reveal my true name anywhere. (I mean Dan knows my name from purchasing sovs but that didn't come lightly)
I work in data and I know how that can be used against me. As much as it's not real life and not the same risks here are a few examples.
"I have a spawner char - when it's online come raid me"
"I have a raider char - when it's offline do raids"
"I have a char you don't like that farms certain things - when it's online grief me"
"I log on at certain times - you know when to grief me"
I could make a macro in about 10 minutes that logs when people are online and log it to a DB then in about 2 weeks tell you where in the world most players and and what time zones they play in.
What are the benefits to me? Nada

What's to stop Dan making 40 accounts and buffing that number anyway so it's not "real" any more than a count would be.If a new player logs in, and can see players online, he will be more apt to stay and play, than move on.. Thats a benefit to everyone, yep, I can be seen online and can be griefed, but there will always be upsides and down sides.
Unlikely there as this does not even log accounts just real mobiles names. Account is not even referenced once in the [online command script.Tbh given enough data points I could probably tell you what characters are on the same account so I know when your PK account is online doing something else like doom

Like I said I'm perfectly fine for the same system but instead of my name on the board as is now it says "name opted out" or something similar
No but if a character disappears off the board and 10s later another one appears and that happens on multiple occasions, given a bit of logic to understand what the chance is of that happening at random and I can tell when it's the same player and then by looking at what other characters are that same player and online at the same time I can work out accounts.Unlikely there as this does not even log accounts just real mobiles names. I mean, we could just remove it altogether.Now that i have seen the system in play, and have given it some thought, I feel like this system does not really meet the need as it gives a bloated number as well, as it is accounting for each character online rather than each player, I would prefer it to just be changed to give you a count for each IP that is connected this would give you a real count of players on the server as well as keep everyone logged on anonymous.
