FIXED Inscription Menu not opening.

Got to around 75 Inscription and now pens don't open the Inscription menu...


Tried Reloging CC.
Tried in EC.
Tried when underweight.
Tried with a fresh new Pen.
Tried making the window larger in case it was out of screen.

Google searches don't show anything related, though I might not being using the correct terminology in my search.

Just started like 10 minutes ago.

No message at all.

But it is now resolved after loading a different account/character then loading the problem one. It resolved itself this way for some reason. Can delete thread. Thank you.

Inscription failed again when I tried an hour ago, then within a minute I logged with a different account and back in, it was resolved.

Beyond that I don't know.

And it is back again. Opening the Inscription Menu on another account did not fix it again, is all I tried as a remedy.

Very tired, so later I will repeat the previous process I tried earlier.
Perhaps the server will restart before then, so I will try first without meddling in 6 to 12 hours.

Edit: It might be useful to know that I am using the Make Max button. Maybe that messes up?

Edit2: Did the other steps I did before and Inscription Menu still broken. Waiting for server restart and will stop using make all to see if it happened without it.

Yes. I leveled Inscription to near 79 and it first happened (from 30 or 40). So it took quite a bit before it kicked in.
The bug occurs after making quite a few spells with Make Max, usually not the first time I use it in a session either. I don't know if Make Max is what makes the bug occur, as I also single make spells. But both actions are occurring beforehand.
It didn't start happening until I was on the last level of spells (8). This I am not sure is relevant.
It only occurs on the alt I am leveling Inscription on. Logging into other accounts and using a Pen works, just not on the one leveling Inscription anymore.
Logging off all accounts, loading EC, resetting UOS completely, emptying my inventory, changing zones all do not change this.

Currently not working since last reported.
It did fix itself once, possibly due to a server restart.

Edit: Death does not clear the bug either.

Dexter I think it's the use last skill issue that we also had with taming. Macros going too fast, however on OSI it does not happen.

I found myself DCed from last night. In case there was a server reset, I tried again and Inscription still not working on toon in question but does on others still.

I am currently stuck trying to make Summon Earth Elemental, bugs started happeneing around Summon Air Elemental, occurring as well with Summon Daemon.

I considered that was occurring without my knowledge.
But.
The bug carries to EC which would not include in game position of UI elements.
I stretched the CC viewable area across two monitors that are positioned in Windows off alignment vertically. No sign of the Inscription Window, so if that is happening it is quite magical in how far it gets moved (farther than I could accomplish myself).

I cannot confirm which button does it. I know I make use of those buttons, but my memory does not include information on the specific timing.
I feel like it is more that I log back in to find it broken, or a pen dies and when trying to relaunch the menu it does nothing.
If the server restarts (and fixes it) I will set up a screen recorder at a low resolution to get the timing down, if we get that far.

I can say that if the menu just disappeared and did not come back after pushing a specific button, I would remember that most likely.

There seems to be an implication in my memory of a delay in time between what triggers the bug, and when I notice it.

So the auto craft feature was actually acting a bit fast at 1 per 0.5 a second. This has been increase to 1 per 1.0 seconds (50% increase in time) and now matches UO. That should hopefully fix the issue. For as hard as we could try, neither myself or @Dexter could actually replicate your issue. Are you using an altered client in any way?

UO itself is using a fresh install.
UOS was using the settings from Demise I had.

Just tried again, still bugged.
Tried with fresh UOS, no go.

Somehow I was able to get this bug to clear once, but not again. Not sure why. I would imagine the server has restarted since I last used the account as well.

What I don't understand is if the bug is with a client at all, why does it occur in the Enhanced Client. That to me makes zero sense.

Going to donate another $5 and get a soulstone and move my inscription to another character. See if it kicks in with another toon.

Wow. Ok I figured it out.

The bugfix this second time is strange.


Pens on the Inscription character would not open, but would on other accounts.
Trading a new pen via trade from a working account to the Inscription Toon would lead to the transferred pen not working as well.

So. I tossed a broken pen on the ground in luna, logged into a character on the same account as the inscription toon and it did not work. But this implied that the bug was across the account not the character. I put that same pen back on the ground in Luna.
Then I logged in with a completely separate account that had Inscription working but not leveled, grabbed the pen and it worked.
Proceeded to drop the Pen again on the floor and picked up with the Inscription Toon.
And it worked on the Inscription Toon!

Somehow that sequence of events fixed it.

Correction.

Old Pens in The Inscriber's Bank are Still broken.

So at the same time I have pens that do and do not open the Inscription Menu.

The Pens that do not work, are missing the "Use Remaining" wording in their description.

That is it. Somehow a bug is erasing the remaining uses flag on Pens. You can trick it back somehow if you transfer it to a different account and back again.



Edit: I just noticed they are even named differently. So the "Scribe's Pen" somehow turns into a "Pen and Ink".
Inscription Toon buys "Scribe's Pens" not "Pen and Ink" now.
It is unknown when the bulk of the pens changed as I remember conflicting scenarios.
Gonna work on leveling the skill again. Now I know what to look for in theory.
