Not A Bug Dungeon Spawn Rates

Dan, I'm so sorry but it seems to me like you might have to go back and revisit dungeon spawn rates sometime. They don't seem to be right since the latest patch.

I did a series of solen quests the other day, and all was going smoothly. Spawn rates were great in the solen hive, and I was able to complete the quests in a reasonable amount of time. However, this morning it was AGONY waiting for solen queens to respawn.

I took some screenshots of when queens appeared. Note the times in the bottom right hand corner. It certainly doesn't seem to be following the 1 second to 3 minutes timer, and I can only imagine other spawn timers you had previously fixed were also affected. :(

So I talked to Brosephine and explained that the warriors and queens are on the same spawner.

So while the SPAWNER is on a 1 second to 3 minute timer it will randomly spawn 1 of 3 warriors or a queen. Most of the time it will seem fluid but due to RNG you could hit a dry spell.

What I will do is put the queens on their own seperate spawner so you are guaranteed to get one between 1 second and 3 minutes.

This won't take affect until after I return but I will keep this open until then to remind myself.

The reason I had put these on the same spawner was to my knowledge strategy as it goes on RealUO was if you didnt kill the smaller mobs the bigger mob spawned faster... Some people only would farm the queen and leave the others alive because it made for faster respawn... This was intended to be all on the same spawner as per realUO strategy(back when I had done the testing for it)

Okay, but I'm saying something is not right with it since the patch last week. Solen queens were spawning fine regardless of how I killed them or the surrounding spawn. I do a lot of these quests, so I would notice a difference.

kill the Queen only, run off and hide.. try that 15 times or so and tel me if you wait longer then 5 minutes.. you shouldn’t.

Hell longer than 3 minutes shouldn’t be possible I don’t think, I had it one second to three minutes.

If the timer is set to 1 second to 3 minutes with all of that spawn on the same timer, why would I be waiting 8 minutes between queens, regardless of whether or not I killed just queens or all spawn? That doesn't make any sense. If it's set to 1 second to 3 minutes, I should see a queen every 1 second to 3 minutes...

....It only can pop one mob out at once so let’s say you kill all three it then has a random chance at which mob it’s gonna spawn next at a random time between 1 second to theee minutes. Once it soawns on of the mobs on the spawner it then begins ticking the clock again for the next mob to spawn so if you killed them all and then one of the smaller mobs spawns and you kill it before letting the Queen come back you’re technically making it possible to wait forever if your luck is shit..

You kill all three mobs, a timer begins to tick and lets say it randomly chooses Mob 2

In 2 Minutes and 14 seconds mob 2 Spawns, lets say you don’t kill mob 2 and you wait for another 1 minute and 50 seconds and mob 1 soawns and you’re like “where the fuck is the Queen” so you decide fuck it and you kill the two basic mobs....
This then puts mob 1 and mob 2 back on the “list” of what needs to be spawned so let’s say you randomly get fucked and it starts the timer spawning the basic mobs again you could end up waiting longer than 3 minutes or even up to 1 hour or more if god hates you..

This is how soawners work when they are all on the same list to my knowledge, this is how I’ve understood them to work.. this is how lots of the soawners are done on ServUO and in the dungeons I did revamp I usually separated mobs after testing it in RealUO a bit but in this one spawner with the Queen I was told that the strategy was to kill only the Queen or you could have to wait longer... so understanding how soawners work I just put all theee on a spawner to get the product that I wasntold was accurate on real UO.

Like I said, go kill queens only and you will see that you never wait more than 3 minutes between a Queen to spawn if you only kill the queens.

Goober is correct and that is exactly how it works on real UO. Say a spawner spawns 2 creatures: An ice elemental and a snow elemental. If you kill the Snow Ele only another Snow Ele can spawn.

If you kill both, there is a 50/50 chance to get either one.

Nothing at all has changed with the solen spawners in anyway, you just got unlucky.

If you killed all 3, every 1 second to three minutes either a warrior, another warrior, or a queen will spawn, IF the warriors are not dead. If you lure the warriors and kill a queen, only the queen can spawn as that is all there is for the spawner to spawn.

I spoke too soon and this may not be a bug but just a case of bad luck when killing all 3. Odds of a queen are 1 in 3. As smart people you understand probability. It does not mean you are guaranteed one for every 3 kills. If you killed 3000 of the monsters on that spawner, only 1000(random) would be queens, 1 in 3. Was most likely just a dry spell.

I wont truly know until August 24th but I suspect the spawner is fine.

I will test on UO Atlantic where I know only certain mobs spawn.

Guess all of those times the queens spawned fine regardless of my "killing strategy" were just a fluke. *shrug* :rolleyes:

If anyone else gets time and wants to take that on I'd appreciate it, so we can put this to bed, otherwise I'll get to it when I get home.

On a side note lets keep Bug Reports civil everyone. If you don't have actual facts to contribute don't post here. Keep all personal opinions and personal attacks out of here.

Also if the rating system is just going to be used to troll it will be removed. While thumbing down is appropriate if someone is rude or insulting, it is not appropriate to go back and rate all posts in a negative manner.

All I know is.. I run to the center of the hive, there are 4 wings accessible from here.. I work my way around in a clock wise fashion.. And every time I start the circle over, there is always 2 minor ants and one queen.. I just did this less than a month ago to throw some solen items on my vendor. Now it doesnt work at all :/ been using this same strategy since this content was released.. I apologize for my use of obscenities.. But some people here jeed to learn respect for others

It HAS though, and you just don't believe me. How many solen quests have you done in the last month? I would guess zero...
I just reported how I set the system up & asked you to try it by only killing the queens and see how that works.

Goober, did you read a thing I just posted? Doing this quest FOR MONTHS it has never mattered HOW I killed the spawn. I could kill literally everything, and 1 second to 3 minutes = a new solen queen. This past Monday morning was the first time I noticed an issue with the timing, which was after the big patch last week that changed/disrupted several other aspects of Heritage.

Maybe the spawner was wrong before the patch? I don't know. I guess whatever Dan discovers when he gets back will determine that, and maybe it's time to have a strategy for the solen queen quest rather than kill everything. I don't, however, appreciate you bashing players who are invested in Heritage and who post issues they notice on the forums, asking for change or at the least, an investigation. You're a toxic person who will drive players away from this server behaving like you do.

While not killing the Solen Workers and only killing the queen I was pulling these spawn times:
1st: 54 Seconds
2nd: 16 Seconds
3rd: 2 Minutes 8 Seconds
4th: 1 Minute 38 Seconds
5th: 1 Minute 20 Seconds
6th: 2 Minutes 20 Seconds
7th: 2 Minutes 9 Seconds
8th: 32 Seconds
9th: 1 Minute 54 Seconds
10th: 1 Minute 8 Seconds

This was on HeritageUO.
