Well I guess no one used cannons to test these out since the last changes were made to them. I have tried on both the Tokuno and Gargish ships now on a few occasions to test them. If you load up a cannon, and fire them at the beacons no matter how close you are they do 0 damage. Shooting another boat still works, but not the beacons.
