FIXED permanent boat paint disappears

Painted my ship the permanent boat paint dye tub,
logged in about week or two later, and boat was back to normal color.

I had been using the boat alot during that time, hours daily with no issues.

not sure if connected or not but ship lost color around the time bugz was being updated with the bounty hunter pirate quest.

when i used the boat paint on ship, i noticed it also change the color of the small/drydocked boat.
the small/dry docked boat color is still the rare rare rare paint color.

I have painted 3 boats with permanent boat paint looted for pirate ships hold's.

2 of the small / dry docked models are the same rare color of the ship as when its placed.
(placed and painted weeks - month ago)

this new purple ship i just painted today, did not change the color of the small / dry docked model.
This makes it very difficult to sell this one of a kind super rare item because the buyer will not be able to tell in the trade window.

if you need a 3 example that seems not broken,
i have a 3rd permanent painted ship drydocked in molokai's backpack.
it was created and painted when this boat paint disappeared.
(instead of posting, i was just like grrrrr, so crafted another orc ship and painted it instead of posting)

anyways, this 3rd ship:

• the dry dock model is rare color
• the placed boat is rare color
• life is wonderful

i think i noticed a difference,

results: After painting 3 different orc ships

the first ship painted, the first time i tried to use the paint i got an error " target the mast dumbass " or something like that,
(i targeted floor i think)

2nd ship painted , i automatically targeted the mast, life if great no issues with this ship

3rd ship painted , dumbass targeted floor again, but notice did not get error in video like on other ship,
guess so far, needs tested = if you use rare ship paint on mast it will also dye its dry docked model.
part 2, needs tested = if you use rare paint and click ship floor, it will paint ship but not model

another point just brain storming,
if this ship loses its color due to some bug 2 weeks from now,
there will be no way to tell it had been dyed
( because the dry docked model is the normal default color)

No, I checked that. It requires "captain" boat access level.

At a glance, it looks like the timer runs and removes paint, regardless of type. I'll need to run some more tests.

This is definitely a bug. The entire boat paint code is very hard to read and needs to be completely re-written to actually account for permanent paint vs normal paint.

In the mean time I am going to prevent permanent boat paint from being used on boats until a fix can be introduced. The permanent paint can still be collected it just won't be useable until such time.

How many permanent paints did you lose?

It is a confirmed bug but one that would take me quite a while to fix. I already tried once and I got it working but introduced other bugs in the processes so I scrapped it to start over. The whole painting system needs a rewrite and time is limited at the moment.
