[Online System

The [online system is ruining PvP at champ spawns! In the last week alone it has ruined 4 of my raids on champ spawns with guild mates. People need to stop trying to make the whole damn server Trammel. If that's what you want then remove Fel and i'll go somewhere else.

In all 4 of these raids I would have a character stealthing at the champ spawns watching people do a spawn; on a character they do not know to be "mean", or "a red". Now this is where it pisses me off. Me and some of my guild mates would log on our red characters to go and raid them and I would watch them start running for the exit as fast as they could. All because they would have this dumb [online system up on their screen. It ruins the Fel experience. I think a lot of us that play on the server came from the early days of UO when it was only Fel. The feeling of being in Fel and hunting or spawning knowing you could be attacked at any moment is what made Fel.... well Fel.

Now all you have to do is type [online and say whelp there is no reds on let me go do spawns because I want to get all the items from Fel but still be a Trammy. Everyone has been talking about stupid NPC systems and ways to improve the economy. Well her is one for you if you want to make the economy better, stop making items in Fel so damn easy to get with zero risk. Players can go to Fel and get double resources and do spawns and do not care if it is Fel because there is no risk when you can just see who is online and no when it is safe. I would bet that at least half the people that do spawns always check the online system to see how safe it is to go to Fel or to farm in Fel.

Some of us who have reds and love Fel also make our money buy selling items we get from Fel to Trammies and then in turn we buy items they make in Fel. When you ruin that dynamic whats the point of even having Fel?

If you want my opinion on how to remove money from the server and help the economy its simple leave the UO systems alone and adjust the insure cost. Dan I know that you hate to see a lot of gold in the economy you try whats seems like monthly to try and do a big gold sink ie. the two Ethy horses at Luna bank right now are exactly that gold sinks. Just increase the insurance amount of items. Everyone dies! In early UO people lost there whole suit and guess what they made new ones and kept playing. Now people have to pay maybe 5k gold if they die if that. Make it so if you die in Fel you have to pay more insurance and less in Trammel but if you die in Fel the person that killed you gets a bigger cut of the money. Right now if you kill someone with a 5k insurance I think you only get 2500gp that's nothing.

Okay i'm done......

I'd like to hear what people think about the [online system and having a different insurance system rather than just increasing NPC prices.

I was wondering how long the [online thing would last before it became an issue.

Now it does not update in real time. You'd have to keep saying the command. Do we know for a fact people are doing this? If so, who, so they can comment.

I'll move this post over to the Inn for more visibility.

The more I play elsewhere the more i learn, if you want better PvP ... well, dont play here with Pets and summons being as retarded as they are then throwing in the broken healing/mage bullshit it's just not worth it.

The only template worth playing is some sort of dexxer.

If anyone wants to pvp with real skill heritage is slowly becoming the place not to be.. and it's funny I'm not a great pvper whatsoever but the state of heritage pvp is garbage due to game mechanics alone

I hope a solution can be found that does not impact PvE as well, as I would like to insure my armor for harder dungeons but if it costs an astronomical amount I probably won't do either.

We are not changing insurance costs. No worries there.

What game mechanics? If something is off, compared to current UO, then we need bug reports.

I don't usually run a stealther so I can't say for certain that this happens all the time, but last night I did and was able to see that a player bolted from a spawn (which was almost to the 4th wave) within 30 seconds of me logging a red character in. Regardless of whether someone is spamming the command to see when people log in or not, I still think that the [online system detracts from pvp. Anyone who plays often is able to use the command to figure what characters play when, and can plan their fel activities accordingly. This is definitely doable without the command (and obviously being tactical is good), but it allows for last minute/periodic checks to ensure that the coast is clear that would not be possible without it. Also, it is easy to write a script that refreshes the gump so you can see the number in real time, allowing you to then check who logged on when it changes. I support the motivation for having the command if it is used to look and see that the server is populated, but not if it is used to look and see specifically when certain players are online. Perhaps the system could be an online count displayed when typing the online command? As for insurance pricing, I don't think changes would be good. I'm pretty sure most people pvp for fun or survival, so in both cases higher insurance costs would just be a nuisance.

I find [online helpful as it shows me who is online at any one time and I know if someone I need to contact is there instead of spamming general chat asking for them

@Dan I can give you the names of the people who have done it in a private message but if they don't want to come forward and admit it that's fine i'm not making this post to call them out but to fix the issue. I like @doit4science 's idea of having a player count but if someone needs to contact another player we have general chat, the forums, and discord. Also @Dan get with goober he can tell you all the bugs that are wrong with our PvP system, like stamina, casting and other things.

Being online in Discord does not mean the person is online in the game though. I find the [Online system very helpful in knowing if someone I need is online or not and my guess is others do. Seems that only people playing PVP are making a fuss about this. Other games that show online statuses don't have people complaining about this. So what if someone knows you are online it just makes it more of a challenge for you.

I have had a few people reach out to me and voice their issues with the [online command. Most notably the ability to hide from the list, which at that point may as well not use it at all.

Instead you will now get a message, when you first log-in, on how many players are online.

Let everyone have on option to be visible on [online or not. Something like [Online off and [Online on to make you listed or not. Or is this a problem?

I agree as this is much better than removing it altogether. Seems only those that play PVP want it removing. There are those of us that make use of this feature too

We will look at coming up with a "friends" list where you can add people and see them online.

Why not just look at the knives chat system, it had an awesome online type system that allowed you to hide yourself. A friends system might as well be a waste of time since guilds are a thing...
