Not A Bug Cu Sidhe Colors

I think the colored spawn rates for the Cu Sidhes might be off after taking a look at the code and the uoguide table which it is based on:

20000 85.830% 2216 Standard
500 2.146% 2422 Dull Copper
500 2.146% 2424 Copper
500 2.146% 2303 Bronze
500 2.146% 2218 Grey
500 2.146% 1445 Agapite
500 2.146% 1317 Sky Blue
500 2.146% 1317 Echo Blue
50 0.215% 1152 Ice Blue
50 0.215% 1151 Pure White
50 0.215% 1650 Wine Red
50 0.215% 1199 Pink
50 0.215% 1299 Valorite Blue #0
50 0.215% 1107 Black
1 0.004% 1161 or 1159 blaze/fire

Lines 21 through 28 of CuSidhe.cs assign the hue:

21 double chance = Utility.RandomDouble() * 23301;
22
23 if (chance <= 1)
24 Hue = 0x489;
25 else if (chance < 50)
26 Hue = Utility.RandomList(0x657, 0x515, 0x4B1, 0x481, 0x482, 0x455);
27 else if (chance < 500)
28 Hue = Utility.RandomList(0x97A, 0x978, 0x901, 0x8AC, 0x5A7, 0x527);

If I am following the logic correctly, the 23301 comes from adding all of the spawn numbers together. And if this is the case, then the chance of a standard colored Cu Sidhe is too high: (23301 - 1 - 50 - 500)/23301 = 0.97635 or 97.64%. This would explain why the other colors seem to be so rare. Instead I think the chances should be the sum of the color possibilities at each rate:

double chance = Utility.RandomDouble() * 23301; // total possibilities 20000 + 500*6 + 50*6 + 1

if (chance <= 1) // possibility of blaze or fire
Hue = 0x489;
else if (chance < 300) // possibility of ice blue, pure white, wine red, pink, valorite blue, or black
Hue = Utility.RandomList(0x657, 0x515, 0x4B1, 0x481, 0x482, 0x455);
else if (chance < 3000) // possibility of dull copper, copper, bronze, grey, agapite, sky blue, or echo blue (sky and echo same hue)
Hue = Utility.RandomList(0x97A, 0x978, 0x901, 0x8AC, 0x5A7, 0x527);

With this logic the rate of standard colored Cu Sidhe matches the table: (23301 - 1 - 300 - 3000)/23301 = 0.8583 or 85.83%.

Also, the table percentage calculations appear to use 23301 as the total number of possibilities, even though it would be 23801 if sky blue and echo blue were both included. Not sure what is going on there so I just went with 23301 so that the percentages work out.

We’ve proven UO guide to be wrong 3 times in the past day.

Any ETA on this? Id like to farm cu for colors but I got 2 colors in 2 days of farming them so its not worth it until its right. :(

While we are on the topic, can we talk about the loot from cusidhe and paragon cusidhe being worse than a lich?

Nope. It is very low on our list, if it is even a bug. We may just keep it the way it is. Tons of sources all say different things and this is the same code since RunUO added it.

What sample size of dogs do I need to kill on test center to give it credibility for you?

Wait.. does this mean one blaze every 1.16 million dogs? :eek: That cant look right to anyone lolll

They still go for 500mil to 2 billion on UO for a reason.

What im getting as is that.. there would only be one if that were the case lol..
Example ; Say you can tame/kill dogs at a rate of 20/hour. You spend 10 hours a day doing so, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year. 50,000 dogs a year. It would take more than 23 YEARS.

You could say more players can kill more, but there is only one place to do so, which is empty half the time. You could say you can kill them faster, but paragons spawn frequently. You could argue that the tamer in this example doesnt take 2 weeks off per year, but he really should because 23 years is a big commitment!

HOWEVER, if you log into osi right now there is probably 4 guys at luna bank on atlantic sitting on blaze dogs. [100 years of dogs?!]

They sell for 3-8 billion currently based on stats, because they average spawning once every 6 months. A 120 tactics sells for 50m on osi, are they only 60 times more rare than a powerscroll?

Ok so I looked at the info a bit more and apparently that Cu Sidhe color table was created from data given by a UO developer back in 2007: https://www.uo-cah.com/color-charts/cu-sidhe. I have no idea if that information is still valid, I just saw that the code appeared to be based on said table and that the logic didn't reflect the stated probabilities. I also made a mistake in the edit I made, it would actually be:

if (chance <= 1) // possibility of blaze or fire
Hue = 0x489;
else if (chance < 301) // possibility of ice blue, pure white, wine red, pink, valorite blue, or black
Hue = Utility.RandomList(0x657, 0x515, 0x4B1, 0x481, 0x482, 0x455);
else if (chance < 3301) // possibility of dull copper, copper, bronze, grey, agapite, sky blue, or echo blue (sky and echo same hue)
Hue = Utility.RandomList(0x97A, 0x978, 0x901, 0x8AC, 0x5A7, 0x527);

I know this is a low priority issue so sorry for taking your guys time up with it, I swear I'm not trying to annoy you :)

If it would help I could go kill some Cu Sidhe on test center, I think a sample size of 30 or so would be enough to at least show a discrepancy if the least rare colors are really supposed to spawn around 15% of the time.

Also either way it would be 1 blaze every 23301 dogs.

Even if the uoguide numbers are wrong, its super sad that we cant almost ever get a colored cu, i would be happy to go on OSI and do even a bigger than 30 id push 100+ if it would mean it could get looked at to change, i really enjoy cu's and there colors but after 2 days of killing them ive spawned close to 15 paragons and not ONE color

There are colored Cus on here. Rare isn't a bad thing, gives them more worth I guess, all the colors.

i agree it gives them more worth but even the crap colors that no one would ever want almost dont exist either

If it makes you feel better, i had a pure white spawn in blackthorns the other day.
Unfortunately these aren't tamable so the ~one per year just rolled for nothing... GLHF!!!

We are going to be keeping Cu's the way they are and have been for some time. The rare colors will remain rare.
